Book Review: Captured: (Warriors of Hir #1) by Willow Danes

Ok I admit it I totally love the Mars needs women trope. Something about a hot sexy alpha male whisking the somewhat reluctant earth female to his home planet sets my heart a pitter-pattering. Biggest problem is though is that 95% of these types of books are erotica. I'm not a huge fan of erotica as I love sexual tension and hate lots of boring overly long sex scenes (ok not boring but after the third overly described scene they get to be boring to me).

After the death of her beloved grandfather Jenna is left of the job clearing out his old cabin and selling off the land she was raised on. Rushing out to what she thinks is a plane crash she discovers that it is no plane that crashed. Instead sexy alpha male Ra'Kur has crash landed on Earth. His home planet is in need of females as war has nearly completely decimated the female population. He believes that Jenna is lifemate brought to him by the All Mother.

Ok this was a quick read that I had a hard time putting down. Though to be honest I nearly chucked it across the room (figuratively as it was an ebook). Spoiler alert: the two have sex the very first day they meet. Ugh ugh ugh! So not what I look for in my romance novels. But I'm glad I stuck with it because this wasn't an all sex fest book. There were a few scenes but nothing that had me rolling my eyes or getting bored.

I loved their story and I LOVED that he was a virgin. Seriously, why are there not more virgin heros out there? I hate all the man whores you encounter in romance so it was so refreshing to meet someone inexperienced.

I loved their early interactions together while they were trying to communicate. I loved that he was smart and was quickly picking up on English.

All in all it was a great read and I plan on checking out more books in this series (though I heard the female main character in the next book is horrible). Because of the couple having sex so early in the book I have to drop a star off of my rating.

I give it a 4 out of 5 stars.

Book Review: Lost in the Apocalypse by L.C. Mortimer

Yay! This is my first blog book review (can almost hear the trumpets tooting in the background). I've been in a zombie/apocalyptic mood so I started searching for something to read that wasn't part of the glut of YA dystopian post-apocalypse (not that I don't like that sort of thing just wanted something different). I came across this for free on Kindle Unlimited and stayed up till 2am just to finish it!

Lost in the Apocalypse tells the story of Emily, a writer who has been away from her cabin for a month. She spent two weeks trying to get to her sister and the next two weeks trying to get home. Her attempt to rescue her younger sister Melanie failed and now she is lost and doesn't know what to do. When she arrives back to her home she comes across Neil and his fellow ex-airmen. They have taken over her cabin in attempt to find a safe "home". But soon they learn that there is no such thing.

The book starts with a bang and doesn't let up. The action keeps propelling the reader forward. I couldn't have put down the book if I had wanted to! The romance was very very light in this book (but there was a tiny bit). The violence wasn't overly graphic but there were still moments that tugged at your heartstrings as characters were forced to make tough decisions.

I loved that the characters weren't the bumbling around unaware of what zombies are. In fact they draw on their knowledge from books, movies, and tv and get the heck out of dodge as fast as they can.

There were a few spelling/grammatical errors but nothing so outrageous that I couldn't keep reading. It was obvious that this had gone through a number of editing rounds and was fairly well polished. Just a few things slipped by.

Warning possibly spoilerish: The book has a bit of a cliffhanger ending. But honestly I liked the open endedness to the ending. It makes me want another book but if there isn't I'm ok with using my imagination to fill in that gap.

Overall it was a delight to read and I really want to check out more works by this author.
